Quiz Buzz 2023–24 was a national-level quiz competition organized by the Rotaract Club of Achievers Lanka Business School in collaboration with the Interact Club of Kingswood College, School Quizzers Association Sri Lanka, and Achievers Lanka Business School. The event aimed to foster academic excellence, teamwork, and school-club partnerships by providing a competitive platform for students aged 15 to 17. It was conducted in two phases: the Preliminary Round took place virtually on January 27, 2024, through Zoom and Quizizz, while the Quarter Finals, Semi-Finals, and Grand Finale were held physically on March 17, 2024, at the Mahaweli Centre, Colombo. Over 60 school teams participated, with 15 advancing to the final rounds.
The competition included multiple rounds testing general knowledge and commerce-related topics, using individual, team-based, and buzzer formats. Royal College (Team A) emerged as champions, followed by D.S. Senanayake College (Team B) and Ananda College (Team A) as first and second runners-up, respectively. The top three teams received monetary prizes and scholarships for ACCA and CIMA. Participants also received certificates and networking opportunities, enhancing their decision-making and problem-solving skills.
The project, planned for September 2023, involved meticulous coordination, documentation, and outreach by both organizing clubs. Despite limited funding, support from Achievers Lanka Business School, SL Webcast, and Chokolaate Magazine helped execute the event successfully. The initiative contributed to the Sustainable Development Goals of Quality Education and Partnerships and aligned with Rotary’s focus on Basic Education and Literacy. Moving forward, improvements such as broader school outreach, better time and fund management, and enhanced preparation resources have been identified for future editions. Overall, Quiz Buzz proved to be a milestone initiative in promoting quiz culture and academic engagement among Sri Lankan youth.
