Foreign Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris stated that, due to the extensive economic cooperation between Sri Lanka and the Republic of Korea, the Korean language will be adopted as a subject for the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination in Sri Lanka from 2023.

This decision was made as a result of the discussions in Seoul with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education of the Republic of Korea Yoo Eun-hye. The Foreign Minister mentioned the popularity of teaching programmes directed at proficiency in the Korean language in Sri Lanka.
