AIESEC is a global, youth-led organization that strives to achieve peace and the fulfillment of humankind’s potential by developing leadership in young people through experiential learning. Guided by their values, they inspire innovation and encourage youth to take action toward solving pressing global issues.

Established in 1995, AIESEC in Sri Lanka has been nurturing socially responsible leaders for nearly three decades, with an active network of over 1,600 university students across 19 universities. Through the four main products Global Talent, Global Volunteer, Global Teacher, and Membership, AIESEC contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by creating inclusive, cross-cultural, and skill-building opportunities for youth.

Project BLOOM was executed in alignment with these SDGs, continuing AIESEC’s mission of driving sustainable community impact and empowering young leaders across Sri Lanka.

AIESEC in University of Kelaniya successfully concluded its impactful CSR project “BLOOM 2025” at Siyambalagahawela Junior School, Wasalakotte on 7th Of November 2025. The project aimed to uplift the school’s learning environment, enhance creativity among students, and create long lasting community impact.

Through the collective efforts of passionate AIESECers and multiple partner organizations, Project BLOOM brought meaningful change to the school by donating:

  • 800+ story books to inspire a love for reading (SDG 4: Quality Education)
  • 1700+ writing books to support academic growth (SDG 4: Quality Education)
  • Musical instruments and a sound system to encourage artistic expression (SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities)
  • A new water pipeline system to ensure access to clean water (SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation)
  • Renovation of the main hall to provide a better space for school gatherings and activities (SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure)

This project became a symbol of collaboration, compassion, and sustainable development. The support from various organizations, alongside AIESEC in University of Kelaniya, demonstrated the power of unity in driving positive change within rural education.

As a youth-led organization, AIESEC not only focuses on developing young leadership but also strives to create the roots for future leaders through initiatives like Project BLOOM. By empowering communities and nurturing young minds, AIESEC continues to live its mission of fostering youth leadership and creating a positive societal impact.

The joy and gratitude reflected on the faces of the students and teachers were the true measure of success. Project BLOOM has planted seeds of hope and opportunity at Siyambalagahawela Junior School that will continue to grow for years to come.
