Igniting Minds, Inspiring Brilliance
Quizzes are not merely a test of knowledge, they are a celebration of learning, quick thinking, and collaboration. With the aim of creating a dynamic platform for holistic education, the Rotaract Club of Achievers Lanka Business School proudly launched Quiz Buzz 2024–25, a national-level quiz competition designed to challenge and elevate young minds across Sri Lanka.
Organized in collaboration with the Interact Clubs of Mahamaya Girls’ College Kandy, Mahanama College, St. Peter’s College, and Stafford International School, as well as the School Quizzers’ Association Sri Lanka and Achievers Lanka Business School, the initiative set out to unite quiz enthusiasts in a friendly yet competitive setting. The project not only promoted academic excellence but also cultivated values such as teamwork, critical thinking, and intellectual curiosity.
Structure and Participation
Quiz Buzz 2024–25 was open to students aged 15 to 17 years, with each participating school allowed to register a maximum of two teams comprising four members each. A total of 127 invitations were extended to Interact Clubs, Quiz Clubs, General Knowledge Clubs, and schools across Sri Lanka, welcoming both Interactors and non-Interactors.
The competition was structured into three key phases:
- Preliminary Round 1 – conducted virtually on 7th April 2025 via Zoom and Google Forms
- Preliminary Round 2 – conducted virtually on 12th April 2025 via Zoom and the KAHOOT platform
- Quarter Finals, Semi-Finals, and Grand Finale – held physically on 3rd May 2025 at the Mahaweli Centre, Colombo
Virtual Rounds: A National Stage of Intellect
The competition kicked off with Preliminary Round 1, witnessing enthusiastic participation from over 85 teams and more than 350 students representing diverse regions and schools from across the island. The round featured 60 questions spanning across General Knowledge, Science, Mathematics, and Commerce, and was conducted by Rtr. Aysha, who served as the Quiz Master.
Based on performance, 50 teams advanced to Preliminary Round 2, which continued the intellectual rigor with another set of 60 multidisciplinary questions. Following this intense round, 25 of the top-performing teams were selected to move forward to the physical rounds.
The Elite 25: Teams Advancing to the Physical Rounds
The Quarter Finals, Semi-Finals, and Grand Finale brought together the top 25 teams, showcasing exceptional brilliance and representing some of Sri Lanka’s most prestigious schools. These teams were:

Quiz Buzz 2024–25 – The Grand Physical Rounds
The much-anticipated physical rounds of Quiz Buzz 2024–25, organized by the Rotaract Club of Achievers Lanka Business School, unfolded on the 3rd of May 2025 at the Mahaweli Centre, Colombo, bringing together the best young minds of Sri Lanka for a thrilling battle of intellect and knowledge.
A Grand Commencement
The day began with enthusiasm and anticipation. The registration desk officially opened at 9:00 AM, and by 9:45 AM, all 25 shortlisted teams had settled into their designated spots, preparing for an intense and exciting competition. The atmosphere buzzed with energy as students, educators, and organizers gathered for the prestigious event.
At 10:00 AM sharp, the official host of the event, Rtr. Aysha, opened the proceedings by warmly welcoming all participants, supporters, and special guests. Her dynamic presence set a vibrant tone for the day. This was followed by a heartfelt Welcome Address delivered by Rtr. Haifa, who highlighted the vision behind Quiz Buzz and commended the exceptional participation from schools across the island.
Let the Battles Begin
At 10:15 AM, the quiz tournament officially commenced under the guidance of the esteemed Quiz Masters of the School Quizzers’ Association Sri Lanka (SQA). The structure consisted of five intense rounds, each containing 10 challenging questions across a variety of subjects.
After each round:
- Answer sheets were collected by a panel of invigilators.
- Scores were tallied and rankings were updated on the Leaderboard to maintain transparency and build anticipation.
The rounds tested knowledge in General Knowledge, Science, Mathematics, Literature, and Commerce, with every question pushing participants to think quickly and strategically.
The Final Four
At the end of the fifth round, the following teams emerged as the Top 4 Finalists:
- Team A – Royal College
- Team A – D.S. Senanayake College
- Team A – Ananda College
- Team B – Royal College
Based on cumulative performance, Ananda College – Team A was announced as the Second Runners-Up. The top two teams—Royal College Team A and D.S. Senanayake College Team advanced to the ultimate battle: The Grand Finale.
A Moment of Reflection and Inspiration
Before the final round began, the audience was addressed by the Chief Guest, Mr. Amjad, Marketing Manager of Achievers Lanka Business School. His inspiring speech highlighted the importance of curiosity, resilience, and continuous learning, leaving a lasting impression on the competitors.
The Thrilling Grand Finale
The final round was structured as a Buzzer Round, raising the stakes and intensity. Each correct answer was awarded 10 points, while incorrect responses resulted in a deduction of 5 points. The round featured 20 high-level questions that tested the limits of speed, accuracy, and teamwork.
After an electrifying battle of wits, Royal College Team A secured the highest points and was crowned Champions of Quiz Buzz 2025, marking their second consecutive victory in the competition. D.S. Senanayake College Team A emerged as the First Runners-Up, showcasing tremendous skill and knowledge.
Recognition and Reward Ceremony
The event concluded with an award ceremony that celebrated not only the champions but all the teams that made it to the final rounds:

All 25 finalist teams received Certificates of Recognition, distributed on stage in front of peers, parents, and distinguished guests.
💸 Scholarships and Prizes
- Teams Ranked 11–25: Each team member was awarded a 30% Scholarship for the first stage of ACCA or CIMA, equivalent to a Rs. 15,000 cash prize. A total of 60 students benefitted from this award.
- Teams Ranked 4–10: Participants received a 40% Scholarship for the first level of ACCA/CIMA, amounting to a Rs. 20,000 cash prize. This was awarded to 28 students.
- Second Runners-Up – Ananda College Team A: Each of the 4 members received a 50% Scholarship for the entire ACCA/CIMA program, valued at Rs. 150,000 per student.
- First Runners-Up – D.S. Senanayake College Team A: Each of the 4 team members was awarded a 60% Scholarship for the entire ACCA/CIMA program, worth approximately Rs. 180,000 per student.
- Champions – Royal College Team A: Each of the 4 winners received a 75% Scholarship for the entire ACCA/CIMA program, valued at an impressive Rs. 225,000 per student.
A Grand Finale to Remember
The highlight of the evening was when Rtr. Giretharan Prithviram, President of the Rotaract Club of Achievers Lanka Business School, officially crowned Royal College Team A as the Champions of Quiz Buzz 2025. The audience erupted in applause, acknowledging both the intellect and spirit displayed by the winning team.
Following the crowning moment, Rtr. Jerukshan, the Sports Director, delivered a gracious Vote of Thanks, appreciating all contributors, participants, and sponsors for making the event a resounding success.
Finally, Rtr. Aysha brought the event close with a group photograph, capturing the faces of joy, pride, and accomplishment.
Conclusion
Quiz Buzz 2024–25 was more than just a competition—it was a celebration of knowledge, leadership, and unity. Under the visionary leadership of Rtr. Prithviram, this project stood out as one of the most successful initiatives of the year, leaving a lasting impact on participants and paving the way for future educational ventures.
